In addition to Mission Impossible, there is a dramatic actor who wants to come out again.

Tom Cruise is 61 years old. And no matter how hard he tries, he won’t be able to jump off cliffs and fight ferociously in zero gravity for much longer without his body begging for mercy. Maybe that’s why he started to make room, among his pending action projects besides Mission: Impossible – Reckoning Part 2, for prestige cinema. That doesn’t mean we won’t see Top Gun 3 or Edge of Tomorrow 2but it means he smelled Oscar and now wants it in his hands.

Tom Cruise and prestige

Variety reports that Tom Cruise will star in Alejandro Gónzález Iñárritu’s new film after the notorious failure of Bard, False Chronicle of Some Truths. Iñárritu has not directed a film in English since 2015 (and The Revenant won Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar) and the actor, in turn, has not played a role outside of the action since 2017, in Made in America.

Tom Cruise makes history with a 160-minute masterpiece – something he hasn’t achieved in over 25 years of Mission: Impossible

The plot or title is not yet known, only that Iñárritu co-wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, with whom he previously made Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), and with Sabina Berman. The director may not be the most popular among the public, but it is undeniable that, when he gets it right, he does it in style.

Tom Cruise, in turn, was nominated for an Oscar for Top Gun: Maverick as a producer and twenty years ago he did not attend the ceremony, as he lost it for Magnolia. Things have changed, he’s a different actor, Hollywood loves him again. Has the time come for the star’s definitive rebirth?
