William Kamkwamba is a young man who was born in Malawi, a poor country on the African continent. At age 14, a terrible drought hit the village where he lived, leaving people with nothing to eat. For those who don’t know what it’s about, this is the synopsis of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a feature film based on real events that is extremely touching. In it, we follow the journey of a young man determined to survive, starring Maxwell Simba and directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

FILM WAS CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED

With an 86% approval rating from experts on Rotten Tomatoes, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (in the original) was shown for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival, immediately winning over critics. The film was nominated to represent the United Kingdom at the 92nd edition of the Oscars, in 2020, but ended up not being selected to compete for the statuette.

Based on a book of the same name, the work was Ejiofor’s debut as a feature film director. During an interview with Deadline in 2019, the actor and filmmaker stated that the experience of adapting the writings was quite satisfactory, mainly because it is such a remarkable story.

“It was like a snowball effect. I started reading this book and it was one thing that led to another. I think it came out in 2009, so I read it and thought, ‘I’d love to tell this story in a film.’ I started this process of talking to people about this and bringing in Potboiler Productions, Andrea Calderwood It is Gail Eganand then I wrote the draft and went to Malawi for the first time to meet William Kamkwamba.”he put.
