The feature film will hit Brazilian cinemas in November.

One of the most anticipated films of this year 2024, Gladiator 2 is about to become reality. In the plot, we follow a sequel to the classic written by Ridley Scott in 2000, now starring Paul Mescal and again under the direction of the director of Alien, the 8th Passenger.

Thus, after having commanded Napoleon and its colossal budget of 200 million dollars, Scott ventures once again into the world of blockbusters, having an even larger investment on his hands. According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, Gladiator 2 (in the original) would have already reached the figure of 310 million dollars – largely due to the Hollywood strikes, which paralyzed production for a certain period of time.

The story of Gladiator 2 takes place more than 20 years after the events of the original film, following the journey of Lucius (Mescal), now an adult, as he takes on the legacy of Maximus (Russell Crowe). Lucius is the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and had a front row seat in the previous feature film.

Instead of ascending as Caesar, his birthright, the boy was moved by Maximus’ sacrifice and bravery, vowing to continue his former commander’s mission. Experts say the film will likely see Lucius fighting in the ring as his political ties come back to haunt him.

Will it surpass the 1st film? Ridley Scott may discover that Gladiator 2’s biggest problem is NOT replacing the protagonist

Led by a renowned cast, the film features May Calamawy, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and more.

It is worth mentioning that Gladiator is considered one of the great classics of modern cinema, responsible for grossing more than 450 million at the box office globally. As reported by Deadline, the second installment seeks to follow the same path, even impressing representatives from Paramount Pictures, who were “speechless” during recording.
