Disney+ continues to grow by investing in quality content, this time with the premiere of a major film ignored by the Oscars.

Streaming platforms are a rich source of content, offering viewers the opportunity to discover some of the best cinema and television works just a click away. Disney Plus is an example of this, providing viewers with access to some of the biggest works of the moment, but also to some small-scale projects that delighted critics throughout the Award Season.

An example of this is “Poor Creatures“, which won 4 Oscars at the most recent ceremony at the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and which is already on the streaming service, joining works from the past such as “The Spirits of Inisherin “, “West Side Story” and “Bohemian Rhapsody“, among many others.

However, despite their popularity among critics, and gaining fans during their stay in cinemas, these films are not always lucky enough to be recognized by the Oscars, or to reach the public’s attention, causing them to fall into oblivion until upon its arrival on streaming platforms, that’s what happened with “Saltburn” on Prime Video, and that’s what happens with this new film that just premiered on Disney+.

The platform has just debuted “Unknown”, better known as “All of Us Strangers”, the latest drama from filmmaker Andrew Haigh (“Searching”). The project stars Andrew Scott (“Sherlock”) and Paul Mescal (“Normal People”), following the journey of a screenwriter (Scott) who tries to deal with loneliness and the trauma of his childhood, while also beginning to develop a relationship with your neighbor (Mescal). In addition to Scott and Mescal, the small cast also includes Jamie Bell (“Rocketman”) and Claire Foy (“The Crown”).

The project debuted in cinemas worldwide at the end of last year but, in Portugal, the work skipped this process by arriving directly on Disney’s streaming platform. Throughout its stay in international cinemas, the project created a sensation among spectators and critics, even being nominated for six BAFTAs, including Best British Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Despite recognition at the BAFTAs, Haigh’s film was completely ignored by the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In her analysis, our critic Maggie Silva found that: “When we lose someone very important, part of us is also incomplete and, contrary to common belief, time does not heal everything. Andrew Haigh recovers, with ‘Unknown’, this piece of lost soul and creates a world full of hypotheses.” Alex Godfrey from Empire Magazine, states that: “After an impressive work, Andrew Haigh raises the bar even further, with an impeccable film that tries to reach the stars, and gets there. It hurts and shines.”
