‘Look How Far You’ve Come’: Rejections Never Hurt Jake Gyllenhaal After Actor Lost Batman Role – Film News

Actor was one of Christopher Nolan’s main choices.

Jake Gyllenhaal has already lost two major roles in his career: Christian in Moulin Rouge, which ended up being taken by Ewan McGregor, and Batman, in Batman Begins.

This latest loss, however, taught him good lessons. In an interview with The Howard Stern Show, Jake Gyllenhaal spoke about being one of Christopher Nolan’s main choices to play Batman. The role ended up going to Christian Bale, as we know, but the director had such a kind attitude that it made Gyllenhaal see rejections differently.

“I remember getting a call from Christopher Nolan and thinking, ‘I just got a call personally from Christopher Nolan. That’s pretty cool. I’ve come really far.’ [sobre mim] even a call saying they were really thinking of me for this film. So, okay, I should continue,” said the actor.

For me, I just say, ‘Look how far you’ve come! So try to carry on.’ That’s what I felt.

Not only did Nolan call him, but Baz Luhrmann did as well, letting him know he hadn’t gotten the role in Moulin Rouge. According to Gyllenhaal, this is an expected attitude when the actor goes through many stages of the test.

“Both directors called me personally to tell me [que não consegui o papel]. And they tell you why. When you get this far, there is a real legitimacy to you potentially achieving something. It’s not like they’re saying, ‘Oh, thank you very much.’ They’re saying, ‘I saw these aspects of you that I really wanted on paper and they’re wonderful, but in the end I ended up moving this way because it suits this person in front of you better. Hair color or height, whatever!”
