Due to scheduling conflicts, Emmy Award winner Ayo Edebiri will not be in Marvel’s Thunderbolts. But her replacement has already been found.

Thunderbolts lost one of its great stars. The Marvel blockbuster, which is due in theaters in July 2025, recently had to let go of The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun due to strike-related postponements, who was officially replaced by Top Gun: Maverick actor Lewis Pullman a few years ago. weeks. While we’ll likely see him play the unstable superhero Sentry, now there’s been another replacement:

Ayo Edebiri will also not participate in the big MCU blockbuster, according to information from Deadline, among others. She will also not be making her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to actor and writer strikes, which meant that work on several major Hollywood projects could not be carried out for an extended period last year. Bitter news for all fans of the young actress.

Edebiri already made a name for herself in 2020 with the excellent drama Shithouse from Cha Cha Real Smooth director Cooper Raiff – and has been one of the dream factory’s quintessential stars since 2023 at the latest: last year she appeared in the film Critic and public favorite Bottoms and in an episode of Black Mirror, among others. In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (and thus in the previous year’s best film), she was heard in the role of Glory – and for her performance in the hit series The Bear, she was promptly awarded an Emmy and nominated for a Golden Globe.

Edebir’s replacement has already been found!

After Pullman’s commitment was recently confirmed, we don’t even have to wonder who will take on his (still unknown) role when it comes to Edebiri’s departure. As Deadline reports, Geraldine Viswanathan will follow in Edebri’s footsteps and take on her role in Thunderbolts.

The 28-year-old Australian has previously starred in the comedy Won’t Give Up and the quick-witted, criminally overlooked satire Bad Education with Hugh Jackman, among others, and also made a lasting impression alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the recently canceled comedy series Miracle Workers. after four seasons. Then, in 2023, she had roles in Apple’s The Beanie Bubble and the Sundance film Cat Person – before her final breakthrough is imminent. And not just thanks to Marvel:

In addition to Thunderbolts, we will also soon see Viswanathan in a comedy alongside Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, and she is also part of the cast of Girls on the Run – the new film from cult director Ethan Coen.

It remains to be seen whether the strikes and associated reshuffles could even lead to a postponement of the Marvel film’s release. As things stand, Thunderbolts is set to be released in cinemas in July 2025 – and will feature Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko reprising their well-known characters .
