The first two Spider-Man films by Sam Raimi are, still today, projects that marked the history of cinema. Even after two decades since Tobey Maguire donned the Web Head costume for the first time – and we have seen the number of productions based on comics grow absurdly -, there is still a desire to see the actor again in the role.

After three films, with the last one below expectations, Sony Pictures even started production on Spider-Man 4 with Raimi, but the project was scrapped to make way for Andrew Garfield’s reboot. Now, after the reappearance of the variant in Spider-Man: No Return Home and the filmmaker’s direction in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a new possibility ignites on the internet.

In an interview with ComicBook, the director talked about a possible new film with Tobey. “Well, I haven’t heard about it yet,” said Raimi. “I read it, but I’m not working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with the current Spider-Man movies, and I don’t know if they’re going to come back to me and say, ‘Well, guys, we can tell that story too!’”

The filmmaker made a point of praising the latest Friendly Neighbor film in the MCU by saying that he loves “all the new Spider-Man films. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really powerful to see Tobey [Maguire] again in it.”

Finally, he added: “I didn’t talk to Tobey about [um quarto filme comigo], but maybe Marvel or Columbia Pictures have talked,” Raimi added. “I just worked with Marvel on a film called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I’d hear about it if it was in the works.”

Previously, Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, the interpreter of Mary Jane Watson, said they would be willing to reprise their roles in a new opportunity. The Civil War actress joked that it would be a great opportunity since “you get paid a lot of money” and have two children, as well as supporting your mother. She added, “It would be fun. I’d be an old MJ right now with little Spidey babies.” Tobey highlighted that “if these guys called me now, it would be a yes”.

For now, Marvel and Sony have not confirmed the development of Spider-Man 4 with Tobey, but they already appear to be starting to produce Tom Holland’s new adventure.
