“I was the first screenwriter of ‘Cleopatra’when it was being developed with Angelina Jolie as the protagonist, which was almost made.”he told. “There were political thriller elements with murder and sex, but it would be an epic divided between her romantic affairs with Caesar and Mark Antony. Several real events surprised me as I wrote [o roteiro]”.

Helgeland continues: “For example, on the day Caesar was assassinated – the Ides of March and all that – she was in Rome. They were leaving for Egypt, and the reason they had to kill him at that time was because he was leaving the city with her. This is historically true and was in the script. She writes Mark Antony’s speech – ‘friends, Romans, countrymen’ – because he doesn’t know what to say, but she tells him what to say. It’s a way of saying: ‘f*** you’ to those people, because she’s smart enough and he’s not.

Remembering that the project would be supervised by Sony Pictures and would bring the acclaimed director David Fincher in the director’s chair.
