Speaking on actor David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast, Stiller reflected on the failure of Zoolander 2 (2016), the sequel to the film released in 2001, which, unlike the second installment, had been very successful. Zoolander 2 not only had a poor reception, it ended up generating a loss of six million dollars for the studio.

The actor, who starred in and directed both films, said he was blindsided by the disastrous results of his sequel and that he feels guilty about it: “I thought everyone wanted this. And then it’s like, ‘Wow, I should to have really f*cked it up. No one went to see it. And it got horrible reviews.”

The actor had previously spoken about the subject and that this “wasn’t a nice experience”, but in this conversation he confessed that he was really scared by the results and that it affected him for a long time, making him question his own self. talent.
