Danny Boyle will be behind the camera again and Alex Garland will be in charge of the project’s script.

It’s been more than 20 years since Danny Boyle and Alex Garland created one of the best zombie thrillers. In 2002, Extermination was released, starring Cillian Murphy, and this universe returns to the big screen with a trilogy. The first film in this new saga has already found its protagonists.

Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have signed on to star in a direct sequel to Extermination which, once again, will feature Boyle behind the camera and Garland as screenwriter. There is no information about the plot of this new film at this time, nor about the characters played by the main actors.

Extermination follows a man who wakes up from a coma and discovers that the city has been devastated by a zombie virus. The film was a commercial success, grossing over $82 million on a budget of $8 million.

In 2007, a sequel titled Deathstroke 2 hit theaters. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland served solely as executive producers.

There is also news about the second film in this new trilogy. Nia DaCosta, director of The Marvels and The Legend of Candyman, will be behind the camera on the project. The idea, as Deadline points out, is to shoot both films continuously.
