Daniela Oliveira, representing Juiz de Fora, is Miss Universe Minas Gerais 2024. Chosen in a contest held in Barbacena, in Campos das Vertentes, on Saturday night (16), the 27-year-old international model beat 30 candidates.

Born in Lisbon, capital of Portugal, and married to a man from Minas Gerais since the age of 18, Daniela chose Juiz de Fora to be her home, which she affectionately calls “my city”. During the preliminary stage, she said she was fluent in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

“I was born in a neighborhood of Lisbon, where I grew up with family and financial difficulties, but where Caetano Veloso never stopped playing and the soap opera ‘Laços de Família’ was sacred”, joked Daniela.

As an international model, the Portuguese-Brazilian model has traveled to many countries and resided in some, such as China. In fact, it was there that she was welcomed by a Brazilian community, began her bond with the country and met her current husband.

“Having children is a dream for me and after traveling the world we decided to give it a try. That’s when we chose Juiz de Fora to be the birthplace of our family. It’s an honor for me to show the world how wonderful a country Brazil is,” she declared.

Favorite since the victory in the municipality of Zona da Mata, Daniela is the first married woman elected Miss Universe Minas Gerais. This was only possible thanks to the relaxation of rules. Now, in addition to married women, mothers and girls of any age can participate in franchise contests.

Historic contest

After the Miss Universe franchise was acquired by Anne Jakrajutatip two years ago, today with part of the shares in the name of Mexican businessman Raúl Rocha Cantu, the contest has become increasingly inclusive. And, Miss Universe Minas Gerais has embraced inclusion.

Last year, the contest featured, for the first time in history, with candidates who are mothers, married and a trans woman.

In this year’s edition, in addition to mothers and married women, the contest made history for having candidates over 28 years old – a rule that fell in 2023.

Lulu Oliveira, Miss Juruaia, is 41 years old and holds, until now, the title of oldest candidate to participate in the contest in the country. She even advanced to the TOP 20, together with the Misses Gonçalves, Juiz de Fora, Barbacena, Lajinha, Poços de Caldas, São Sebastião da Vargem Alegre, Sete Lagoas, Coronel Fabriciano, Uberaba, Ouro Preto, Congonhas, Ipaba , Belo Horizonte, Betim, Dona Euzébia, Uberlândia, Miraí, Mariana and Rio Paranaíba.

Afterwards, the group narrowed down. Juiz de Fora, Gonçalves, Barbacena, Mariana, Rio Paranaíba, Ipaba, Betim, Dona Euzébia, Uberlândia and Miraí advanced. Afterwards, only six followed, being from the cities of Juiz de Fora, Gonçalves, Barbacena, Mariana, Miraí and Rio Paranaíba, the latter by popular vote.

With 1,994 points, Miss Universe Juiz de Fora won the contest. Tatiana Gonçalves came in second place, with 1,870, and Nádia Campos, from Barbacena, came in third, with 1,844. The scores include interview evaluation, preliminary stage of parades and the final, where they were evaluated on various aspects, such as public speaking and performance on stage.
