Campo Maior pays tribute to Commander Rui Nabeiro one year after his death

The ceremonies began next to the Comendador’s statue, in the center of the town, where a phrase evocative of his legacy was unveiled: “If we all wanted to, the world would be extraordinary”.

This was followed by the laying of flowers, next to the statue, by the Nabeiro-Delta Cafés Group, Rui Nabeiro’s grandchildren, and the City Council.

João Manuel Nabeiro, son of the Commander and Chaiman of the Nabeiro-Delta Cafés Group, began by saying, visibly moved: “today, here next to his statue, it is inevitable to be invaded by a wave of feelings that intertwine nostalgia, admiration and an enormous gratitude. This monument, which is a tribute to Mr. Rui, is also an invitation to remember his legacy, the legacy of a man whose life was marked by generosity, humanism, entrepreneurship, friendship and a deep love for the community.”

The son of Commander Rui Nabeiro also said that his father was always “a defender and a living example that the true value of a person is measured by the good he does around him, in every gesture he demonstrated a strong conviction in the power of solidarity and to extend a hand to those who needed it most.”

“His life is an example of determination, vision and, above all, tireless dedication to the causes and well-being of the community that saw him grow and always welcomed him with open arms. Commander Rui Nabeiro was a very proud son of Campo Maior”, added João Manuel Nabeiro.

The mayor of Campo Maior, Luís Rosinha, says that this day “marks the nostalgia, the advice, the teaching and also the perspective of being able to follow the life, work and behavior of Comendador Rui Nabeiro”.

Assuring that all the messages they can make “will always be few”, the mayor states that “there will be many people in the country and in the world who want to pay tribute to this one who was the greatest Campomaiorense, the one who gave everything to his municipality and was always available for the its people.”

After this ceremony, a mass followed, at the Igreja Matriz Campo Maior and, also today, in several locations across the country, Eucharists are celebrated in memory of Commander Rui Nabeiro.
