Billboard has been tracking the top of the music charts for the past 65 years and, during this period, no woman recorded more songs number 1 than Mariah Carey! Throughout her career, the singer debuted at number one 19 times and, thanks to this, it was projected to be just a whisker away from reaching the Beatles’ historic record (20).
The last hit in his discography to reach the top of the charts was, in fact, the masterpiece of his career. “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, in 2019. Yes! The song originally released in 1994as part of your first Christmas album – “Merry Christmas”aged like wine and returned to first place in the Billboard Hot 100almost 3 decades after its release.
The song, in turn, was re-recorded several times later and immortalized as the most successful Christmas song of all time! The singer, recognized worldwide for her characteristic melisma, commented on this:
“I really started thinking, ‘What are all these things I think about Christmas?’. Lights, gifts, socks, fireplaces. I always loved Christmas, but I grew up with little money, without being able to experience it like other children. I wanted Christmas to be perfect, but for many different reasons, it never ended up going the way I wanted. So when I wrote this song, I just set my expectations on this perfect moment.”
And all this without mentioning the commercial success of their records, within the Billboard 200, a chart responsible for tracking the world’s most popular albums on a one-week scope.
Regardless, Mariah’s success has been compiled into one of the most illustrious careers in the music industry. In fact, in celebration of his birthday, 125 years, Billboard chose the 125 greatest artists of all time, according to numbers recorded by Luminate charts. With this, the artist recognized worldwide as one of the greatest singers of all time, took off to fourth place in the table, behind only the Beatlesof the Rolling Stones and the eternal RocketmanElton John.
