Nominated for the “Lusofonia Award” category of the PLAY Awards, Giulia Be, author of the “perfect” song, announced, in an interview with NOVO, that she intends to return to Portugal in May to participate in the PLAY — Portuguese Music Awards ceremony.

The Brazilian artist, who in 2023 presented her debut album in Portugal Flying Saucerrevealed to NEW who wants to return to Lisbon, where he “feels at home”, highlighting that “it is high time” to collaborate with a Portuguese artist. And she assured: I remain a “loose girl”.

O Flying Saucer took off and arrived in Portugal, with the beginning of tour at MEO Sudoeste 2023, in a sold-out concert for thousands of people. Did you feel welcome by the Portuguese?

It was surreal — I dare say they were two of the best days of my entire life. The Portuguese public welcomed me with open arms, I was amazed by all the contagious energy of more than 45 thousand people.

Both shows, at MEO Sudoeste and at Feira de São Mateus (where I celebrated my birthday on stage), were totally “out of the ordinary”, the closest I’ve ever come to feeling magic in real life. They will forever be marked in my memory and history.

Portugal, I am immensely grateful for all the love I received and for each person present who made that moment unique, I will spend the rest of my existence trying to repay that affection in the same way.

Do you feel that it is in fact a “brother country”?

For sure! I have a very special connection with you. The language creates a strong bond between Brazil and Portugal, and the love for music solidifies this closeness.

Every time I go to Lisbon, I feel more at home, surrounded by people who understand my lyrics and the messages I want to convey with them. When I feel the receptivity of the Portuguese public, it would be impossible not to compare the feeling to brotherhood.

Brazilian music is increasingly heard in Portugal, and the “Lusofonia Award” category of the PLAY Awards also ends up being the result of this diversity among Portuguese-speaking countries. How important are awards like this for the Portuguese-speaking community?

Awards like this are important to demonstrate the cultural unity between Portuguese-speaking countries, while also celebrating the diversity that brings us here.

I am thrilled to see Brazilian music conquer more and more spaces and gain recognition around the world, and my career is the perfect example of a Brazilian artist who is strengthened (in every way) through his Portuguese connection.

The awards not only serve the purpose of recognizing talent, but to celebrate the connection between artists and fans from different countries. I’m very honored to be part of all this and I’m passionate about my Portuguese fans.

What message does the named song want, perfectpass it on to the fans?

Perfect It’s a song that carries a lot of meaning for me. It’s a message of self-love and acceptance.

When I wrote this song I couldn’t hold back my tears. Just like all of us women, I am multiple. I surrender in the studio, recharge myself at home and find myself through my decisions. I recognize that I have changed, I have made peace with myself and I have forgiven myself for any part of myself that I previously judged. Perfect that’s about it.

I want my fans to know that they are perfect the way they are, with all their imperfections and singularities, and that in life we all go through moments of difficulties and anguish, but they pass! It is important that we know how to welcome ourselves in all instances and through life’s inconsistencies.

Do you find inspiration in Portuguese music?

Portuguese music has a unique depth, and I find it a broad and special source of poetic inspiration.

Over the years, I began to explore cadences of rap music Portuguese, to melancholic melodies that originated from fado, and all of this speaks to my compositions in a cultural exchange that enriches me as an artist and connects me even more with my audience and with other artists who inspire me on the other side of the world.

Are there Portuguese artists you would like to collaborate with?

Portugal has so many incredible talents! I recently collaborated with SYRO on the song Cocoa Flower (which is the opening theme of the Portuguese soap opera “Cacau”), I participated in Let’s go with everything, with David Carreira (the national team’s official anthem during the European Championship), and I think it’s high time to collaborate with a female artist from Portugal.

I want to write more songs with my friend Bárbara Bandeira (we have one saved that never came out), meet NENNY in person, as I’ve been an online fan of hers for a long time, and I’d also love to talk to MARO, as I believe that a feat ours in Portuguese and English would be really beautiful.

Are you already working on a second album?

Music never stops in my life, as it is what moves me. My “voice notes” are always connected, and poetry never stops blooming in my mind. I can say that there is a lot already ready, or almost ready, and that I am immersed in some projects, but above all I am very excited to reveal what is coming to my fans and everyone.

When will I return to Portugal?

I heard there is going to be a very special event in Lisbon on May 16th [referindo-se à cerimónia de entrega dos PLAY — Prémios da Música Portuguesa], and I’m trying to organize my schedule so I can be present. Portugal has a very special place in my heart, so I can’t wait to get back there!

Five years ago he released an unmistakable hit that got (and still gets) people dancing around the world. Giulia Be, continues one loose girl?

Obvious! Once loose girlforever loose girl!

I can say that I continue to be “loose” in the world, exploring new things and spreading love through my work.
