“Fear of losing pans”: Ventura criticizes meeting between Montenegro and Pedro Nuno

Chega has already reacted to the news of the meeting this Wednesday between Pedro Nuno Santos and Luís Montenegro, with André Ventura stating that “the PSD prefers to negotiate with the PS than with Chega”.

On social media, the party leader accused the parties of “joining efforts for fear of losing pots”.

Deputy Pedro Santos Frazão also reacted to the news, accusing the PS and PSD of bipartisanship. In a post on Instagram, he also stated that the two parties are “clinging to the lifeline” trying to make “everything the same as in recent decades”.

The prime minister-designate and the secretary general of the PS meet this morning to try to unblock the election of the president of the Assembly of the Republic.

A news was advanced by Público and, meanwhile, confirmed by SIC, which knows that the meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am.

The newspaper also added that there are two hypotheses on the table: the PSD withdraws its candidacy and accepts the election of Francisco Assis, or the PS supports the Social Democrat candidate.

Parliament will meet again in plenary this Wednesday, at 12:00, for a new vote. Parties have until 11:00 to present their candidates.

Parliament failed to elect president

The meeting between Montenegro and Pedro Nuno takes place one day after the Parliament was unable to elect the president of the Assembly of the Republic.

In the first vote, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco (PSD) ran alone, but the majority on the Right did not materialize and Chega blocked the election.

The plenary returned for the second vote, after the presentation of new candidates. In addition to Aguiar-Branco, Francisco Assis (PS) and Manuela Tender (Chega) also voted. But none of the candidates achieved a majority.

In the third and final vote of the day, the result was no different. The PS and PSD candidates received the most votes, but Chega voted blank and postponed the election again.
