Google is preparing new measures to protect users from outdated apps and potential security flaws. In the future version of Android 15, the system will officially stop supporting apps created for Android Marshmallow.

Since last year, the Play Store began hiding apps created for Marshmallow, but users could still use third-party platforms to install apps on older systems. However, with the arrival of Android 15, this will change.

The system will feature a new mechanism that prevents the installation of apps, even if they are from external sources, which have been focused on Marshmallow. Therefore, only apps created for the latest version of Android Nougat can be installed on Android 15.

Remember that Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released in 2015, and is currently quite outdated. However, there are still users on devices that only have this version of the system.

Google is preventing the installation of these applications on Android 15 precisely to prevent them from circumventing some of the security and privacy measures that were introduced with the recent version of the system.

This focuses on ensuring greater security for users, with more advanced control of the permissions that each app can have on the system, and the way in which it can use them.

The discovery was made in the latest test version of Android 15 Developer Preview 2, so it may still undergo changes before the final version arrives. However, given all the changes made to the system, the measure will be unlikely to be removed.

For developers, they simply need to ensure that their applications are developed for the latest versions of Android, and that they have all the permissions stipulated for this.
