Three rounds to play, five points difference. This is the scenario between the two teams still with a mathematical chance of reaching the title, Sporting and Benfica, after a 31st round in which the eagles beat SC Braga at home and the lions drew away against FC Porto .

Until the end of the championship, Sporting, leader of the table with 81 points, will host Portimonense, who is fighting to escape the relegation places, before visiting a now slightly calmer Estoril and visiting the distressed Desportivo de Chaves.

As for Benfica, they visit Famalicão in the next round (which remains calm in the table, but has not won in four rounds), then receives Arouca (equally calm in the classification and unbeaten in five games) and ends the championship in Vila do Conde, with a visit to Rio Ave, a team that is still involved in the fight for permanence.

To mathematically become champion, without depending on Benfica’s results, Sporting needs to add five more points. However, the Lions have a considerable advantage over Benfica in the difference between goals scored and conceded (14), so four points will probably reach them.

And there is even a possibility of there being a green and white party in the next round, but only ‘on the sofa’, after Benfica plays. To become champions next weekend, in the third to last round, Sporting could be champions if they win at home to Portimonense, scheduled for Saturday, and Benfica do not win, then, in Famalicão, on Sunday.
