Minister launches harsh criticism of the Santa Casa provider: “I have completely lost trust”

-

Maria do Rosário Ramalho, current minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, spared no criticism of the provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lisbon. This Tuesday, in an interview with RTP, she claimed that Ana Jorge did not have the capacity to solve the institution’s problems and reiterated that it was a dismissal for management reasons.

The minister, responsible for Ana Jorge’s dismissal, revealed that the ombudsman had made the position available at the beginning of the new Government’s mandate, a decision that Maria do Rosário Ramalho praised. However, according to the minister, given the “total lack of response” to requests for information from Santa Casa da Misericórdia, the Government decided to dismiss Ana Jorge.

To RTP, Maria do Rosário Ramalho assured that the provider’s departure was a management issue and not a “political clean-up”, as has been alleged by the opposition. She also said that Ana Jorge’s successor had not been chosen.

It was last week, precisely two days before Ana Jorge completed a year in office, that the Government reported on the dismissal from the Board of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Lisbon. In a statement, the Ministry of Rosário Palma Ramalho justified the “inevitable” decision with “serious financial and operational problems”, and with a “treasury shortage”.

It should be noted that, as they have not completed a year in office, the ombudsman and members of the Mesa da Santa are not entitled to any compensation.
