Zeno Debast is making great strides towards being Sporting’s first reinforcement for 2024/25. From what Record found, SAD has already reached a 20-year agreement with the central defender, valid for the next five years, and is moving decisively to also close negotiations with Anderlecht. With talks between the clubs already at an advanced stage, the Lions hope to conclude the process this week, and then move on to Ioannidis’ portfolio.

As our newspaper reported on April 15, Sporting set the bar early on as far as they were willing to go for the Belgian international, worth 16 million euros. The investment should be around precisely this value, despite Anderlecht having aimed higher, at 18 million, although with little margin to do so, as the central defender only has one more year left on his contract with the club and warned that he would not renew.

As happened in previous advance moves – in the case of Gyökeres, for example –, the lions want to close as soon as possible a reinforcement that they believe to be fundamental to the chances of success in the next season, which should soon merit the arrival of their representatives to Lisbon.

In addition to Debast’s call-up for the Euros being likely, which will increase his exposure, yesterday it was reported in Italy that Juventus and Naples were interested in the player, in addition to the well-known harassment from E. Frankfurt and West Ham. But the lion has ‘risen’ and is very close to reaping the rewards.

Diomande’s natural successor

The developments in Debast’s dossier give Sporting greater comfort regarding the possibility of Diomande leaving Alvalade, as the 20-year-old central defender’s departure is duly taken into account. The Belgian’s profile, moreover, is similar to that of the Ivorian, in that both are right-handed defenders, physically strong and with technical quality. Diomande is a target for Newcastle, Chelsea or Arsenal. The termination clause is €80 million.
