English press reports that majority members of the ‘blues’ plan to remove the current president from office in 2027

Todd Boehly’s presidency at Chelsea, the club he took over in 2022, has not been going well and, according to the Daily Mail, his days may be numbered. The same source states that the blues are preparing to appoint a new president in 2027.

The English newspaper states that, as part of an agreement between the club’s American co-owners, they can hand over the presidency to each other every five years. Therefore, the intention is to remove Boehly from his position when the opportunity arises at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Clearlake Capital, the private equity firm run by owners Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano, has a 61.5% stake in the club, while Boehly has an equal share of the remaining 38.5% with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter. This way, Eghbali or Feliciano can take over the role or they can nominate someone to take over as president of Chelsea. The replacement has not yet been found, but, according to the Daily Mail, Boehly will indeed be removed from his position.

Boehly has been the target of criticism from football fans blues which, at the moment, sees the club occupying 11th place in the Premier League and lost in the Carabao Cup final against a heavily depleted Liverpool team.
