Penafiel went to União de Leiria to take another step towards permanence, winning 2-0, this Thursday, in the game that marked the start of the 31st round of the II League. On the other hand, Filipe Cândido’s team, which only needed a draw to guarantee maintenance, postponed these accounts.
The Dourienses opened the scoring in the 24th minute, through Gabriel Barbosa, who responded with a well-aimed header to Leandro Teixeira’s cross.
Just before the break, Bryan Róchez saw two yellow cards in the space of two minutes (35 and 37m) and left Leiria outnumbered.
Just before the hour of play, Gabriel Barbosa scored twice in the match, this time with a deflection in the area, following a cross from the right, by Miguel Maga.
With this victory, Penafiel moves up to 12th place, with 38 points, one less than Leiria, which occupies 10th place.
If Feirense – instead of a play-off place, with 27 points – loses or draws in this round, when visiting Marítimo, the two teams will ensure, from the outset, that they will remain in the second tier.
