Intel confirms that Microsoft Copilot will be able to run locally

-

Intel recently confirmed that Copilot users on Windows 11 can soon enjoy some of its features locally, without having to resort to Cloud processing.

In other words, with this measure, systems that have compatible Intel processors will be able to perform some AI tasks locally, without having to send data to Microsoft systems. This may allow certain tasks to be carried out even on systems that are entirely disconnected from the Internet.

During Intel’s AI Summit event, the company revealed that this measure will be adapted for future AI PCs, where they will have dedicated hardware for processing AI data in a local format, instead of using cloud processing.

Intel considers an AI PC to be any computer that has a relatively recent processor, with an NPU for data processing. Windows is also a necessary system to take advantage of the functionality.

Several newer processors on the market already have integrated NPUs, which allow them to perform AI tasks locally. However, there is still a need for software capable of taking full advantage of them.

To carry out AI operations effectively, the company indicates that NPU processors must be capable of performing 40 TOPS – operations per second. The company also states that it is developing a new chip that will be capable of achieving this processing capacity.

With this, it is possible that we will have more and more Artificial Intelligence functionalities working locally, which can result in tasks being carried out with more privacy, security and speed, instead of using cloud systems for the same task.
