Revolutionize Virtual Reality and compete with Apple: here’s Meta’s plan

Apparently, Meta wants to assume a hegemonic role in the headset sector. The company began licensing the Quest operating system to companies like Lenovo and Asus. The brand is also focused on offering great compatibility with Xbox games.

According to The Verge, this intention of reaching several places at the same time is also seen in app stores. Apparently, Meta invited Google to put the Play Store on its operating system: Horizon OS.

Recent times have shown a great commitment from Meta to increasingly improve Horizon. The company even brought it to the web in a 2D version. Remember that this is a mixed reality ecosystem, where you can create your own avatar and interact with others.

It appears that Meta’s plans are ambitious. So much so that Mark Zuckerberg aims to make Meta an even more open platform than Apple. In this way, the creator of Facebook intends to rival the Apple Vision Pro.

Meta wants to create an open ecosystem around it

Regarding the Meta headset, Zuckerberg said: “you can imagine a lightweight headset that pairs with a computer to provide the best work experience at home or on the go” (via The Verge).

Remember that Microsoft also tried to do something similar. As the same source of information states, the company experimented with making Windows an operating system for virtual reality headsets.

Regarding the Meta project, Zuckerberg explains that open ecosystems are characterized by having very broad partnerships. For this reason, Meta’s objective is to create a kind of virtual community around you.

In the words of Meta’s CEO, what we intend to build “is an open ecosystem for the next generation of computing around virtual and augmented reality in the metaverse more broadly, which means there will need to be all these partnerships” (via The Verge).
