O Google made available the Google Gemini for download on cell phones Androidvia Google Play. In addition to functioning as a chatbot based on artificial intelligence, like ChatGPTthe app can replace Google’s standard digital assistant, activated by the “ok Google” voice command.

When installed, the app asks the user if they want to replace the traditional assistant with Gemini, showing some of the differences between the systems.
Among Gemini’s skills are “creating personalized images, writing emails and posts, learning practically, setting alarms, timers and reminders and much more”, according to the app. Features offered by the old assistant, such as “use Assistant routines” and “translate conversations in real time” do not appear in Gemini’s feature list on the app’s home screen.
In testing the report, Gemini did not respond to the request “play a song on Spotify”, responding “I can’t help you with this provider yet, but I’m learning”. The app, however, was able to skip tracks from an album that was already playing in the app, like the previous assistant. Gemini is also not yet able to present results without the cell phone being unlocked.
In addition to replacing the assistant, the application works as a chatbot, similar to ChatGPT, answering questions (including by voice), generating images and analyzing photos sent by the user. When activating the profile, you can also request to analyze the cell phone screen and ask for context of what is being displayed.
