Microsoft’s report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2024, which ended on March 31, indicated that Xbox had a significant increase in earnings in gaming content and services, but a drop of almost a third in hardware entries.

The division’s revenue increased 51 percent year-over-year to $5.45 billion, thanks to “55 net impact points from the Activision acquisition.” The numbers exceeded Microsoft’s expectations, as did revenue from content and services, which increased 62 percent compared to the same quarter last year.

The CEO of the North American giant, Satya Nadella, highlighted that all of this ends up making sense and meeting the company’s new strategy: “We are committed to meeting players where they are, bringing great games to more people on more devices,” he said.

The executive, in fact, celebrated the success of Xbox games on PlayStation: “Finally, we are expanding our games to new platforms, bringing four of our fan favorites to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time. In fact, earlier this month we had 7 games in the top 25 most popular on PlayStation Store, more than any other publisher.”

Xbox may launch another rival for the PS5 Digital

The website Exputer appears to have revealed a “surprise” that Microsoft was keeping about the Xbox. Apparently, in addition to the speculated portable, the company would be about to launch another rival for the PS5 Slim Digital – a completely digital version of the Series X, without a disc reader and with a lower price.

The page revealed some photographs of the model, which is completely white and, most likely, will not only compete with the latest PlayStsation 5 but also with the Xbox Series S, which is a more affordable device in the Microsoft line. Find out more about this possibility by clicking here.
