Even though not everyone believes in the advantages of dark mode on Android or iOS, the truth is that many programmers continue to rely on this interface. Android 15 now wants to take this help to users further and is preparing to bring the solution to apps that do not have dark mode available.
Android 15 brings dark mode to all apps
Since Android 10, Google has offered developers an option to “override force dimming” in apps on this system. This forces the app to adopt a darker theme, inverting some elements of its interface and other areas.
In fact, this mode is effective to a certain extent, but many elements of the application's apps generally do not change. On the other hand, apps often completely ignore this setting. In Android 15 this may change and Google appears to be working on a new method to force dark mode that applies better to apps.
First identified in beta versions after Android 14, there are now improvements in a new option that is expected to be released in Android 15. This new option is simply titled “Make all apps dark” and is found in the settings. Other options in this menu include color inversion, animation removal, and color correction settings.
Google wants to give this help to all users
This new option allows Android to force apps to use a dark theme, but it doesn't affect images and also works in more apps. This is because some apps have chosen not to use the “replace force dark” option over the years.
There are clear examples of this situation, where Fitbit stands out in the negative. It doesn't have a very dark interface under “replace force dimming”, but it does under this new setting. Another improvement resulting from this appears to be that the status bar reacts appropriately to the now dark app, rather than still appearing as if the app is in a light theme.
This feature is not yet confirmed in Android 15, but it seems clear that Google is preparing this feature for its new system. There is still plenty of time for this to be integrated into the new system that is being prepared.
