The monthly SEAB/DERAL research report points to an evident increase in the values of live chicken during the month of January 2024 in the state of Paraná. The average nominal price to the producer reached R$4.59/kg, representing a significant reduction of 0.9% in relation to the previous month (December/23: R$4.63/kg) and a significant reduction of 8.2 % compared to January 2023 (R$ 5.00/kg).
These data were highlighted in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin for the week of February 23rd to 29th, prepared by the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of the State Department of Agriculture and Supply (Seab).
During 2023, the average nominal price ended at R$5.36/kg, marking a substantial increase of 20.56% in relation to the average annual cost of producing live chicken, which closed at R$4.67/ kg. In relation to the inputs used in creation, the average price of corn wholesale in Paraná in January 2024 was R$ 59.31/sc of 60 kg, showing a significant drop of 31.35% compared to January 2023 (R$86.39/sc of 60kg).
As for soybean meal, in January 2024, the price reached R$2,276.84/tonne, reflecting a significant decrease of 27.8% compared to January 2023 (R$3,153.09/tonne).
In relation to chicken meat prices at the three market levels, there was a reduction compared to the previous year. At wholesale, the average drop was 15.4% for a kilo of chilled chicken. At retail, despite an increase of 4.8% for chilled chicken, a reduction was recommended for chicken breast and thigh cuts.
This reduction in prices can be attributed to the summer vacation period and school recess, resulting in greater flexibility in the consumption of traditional foods. According to SEAB/DERAL, in the week of February 19th to 24th, the average nominal price to producers in Paraná reached R$ 4.55/kg, 0.9% lower compared to the previous month and 0.7% higher last week.
