Every week, the DECO Protest do the math on a basket with 63 essential products ranging from dairy products to frozen foods. This week’s results show that the food basket now costs 237 euros and 59 cents, an increase of 1.77% compared to the first week of March.
If we compare it to the same period last year, this basket is 2.75 euros more expensive. In general, there are several essential goods that continue to become more expensive.
This week, the fresh fish was the product whose price increased the mostcompared to the previous week. It is more expensive at 2.18 euros. In second place are cereals and in third place are turkey legs.
But if we compare it with the start of the yearO tuna in steak occupies first place in the ranking of the products with the highest price rise, followed by horse mackerel and onion.
On January 5th, VAT 0 support ended. In the following days, there was an increase in the price of the basket, which in this case contained 41 products. If we do the math, this basket is 6.31 euros more expensive compared to the day before VAT 0 came into force.
Ukraine is one of the countries that exports the most products to Portugal, but the war led to an increase in prices. The price of a food basket has risen by 53 euros and 96 cents since the start of the conflict. Which translates into an increase of 29.39%.
The price of the DECO Protest basket has varied in recent years, having increased by almost 7% compared to January 2024.
