According to MPES, the families contacted the agency last Friday (15), one day after Clarinha’s death, confirmed on Thursday (14). The MPES said that it is seeking help from the competent bodies in relation to these demands.

For years, intense work was done to search for family members or acquaintances of the patient, but without success.

Affectionately nicknamed by a nurse, Clarinha was admitted to the Military Police Hospital (HPM), in a vegetative state, after being run over on June 12, 2000, in the center of Vitória.

In 2022, the demands related to Clarinha began to be forwarded to the 10th Civil Prosecutor of Vitória, Luiz Alberto Nascimento, due to the need to prepare her civil birth record, so that it could be legally recognized its existence, guaranteeing healthcare services in public institutions and bodies.

One day before Clarinha’s death, the court granted civil registration to “Clarinha”, as she was called. With that, she could have a personal document. The intention was to facilitate medical care in public institutions and bodies.

The judicial decision, taken following a request from the Public Ministry of Espírito Santo (MPES), was obtained last Wednesday (13) and now means that Clarinha will not be buried as a pauper.

Clarinha died after being struck by a sudden illness, with vomiting and bronchoaspiration, which ended up causing respiratory instability. She was treated by the medical team, but did not survive.

Also according to the Public Ministry, after Clarinha’s death, HPM employees were informed of the court decision, so that they can inform who will be responsible for authorizing the release of the body and burial.

The person selected for these measures is doctor Jorge Luiz Potratz, who cared for the patient throughout her stay at HPM, which lasted more than two decades.

The measure guarantees that the patient will not be buried as a pauper, and a request will be made for the death certificate to be drawn up in the name of “Clarinha”, containing information such as the final place of burial, as well as a photographic record.

This will be done to facilitate any clarifications regarding Clarinha’s case, including her identity. For this purpose, the collection of genetic material will be requested for possible examinations.

According to Jorge Luiz Potratz, who became responsible for “Clarinha”, in addition to MPES, there is also help from businesspeople to give the patient a dignified burial.

“Many people are calling me, sympathizing with me, with Clarinha’s situation, a group of businesspeople offered to hold her wake and burial, following the release of the DML. This means we can not let her story die , a body thrown in any corner as a pauper, and ending up there”, he said.
