The National Association of Taxi Drivers of Angola (ANATA), the largest association of taxi drivers in the country, says that the “blue and white” will continue to charge 150 kwanzas for the taxi ride until the fuel subsidy is removed, on the 30th of next April, and they assure that, in the future, the price will not reach 600 kz, as is already circulating on social media.

ANATA says it works to ensure that future taxi prices do not harm the population or transport owners.

According to the largest taxi drivers’ association in the country, the major floods that have occurred at stops every day have nothing to do with price speculation or the shortening of routes.

The president of ANATA, Francisco Paciente, said that there is no investment in the transport sector and reinforces that the sector is in decline.

“There is a lack of vehicles in the transport sector. Banks do not grant credit to taxi drivers, and the various plans to help the economy do not help taxi drivers, hence the weakening of the sector, which harms the population”, he stated.

In ANATA’s view, the rise in taxi prices is not, for now, a cause for concern, but it emphasizes that its rise is irreversible as soon as the fuel subsidies that the Executive has guaranteed end, thus increasing the liter of gasoline for 300 kz.

“We are already aware of how much the price of a taxi fare might be, but it is not possible to say anything in advance so as not to serve as a reason for price speculation,” the president of ANATA told Novo Jornal, assuring that the price will not harm anyone.

ANATA wants new prices depending on the career and ensures that it has already provided the Government with a recently updated route mapping, which will serve as the basis for discussing taxi prices, as soon as the Government withdraws the current fuel subsidy, already announced.
