The Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, celebrated the arrest of three suspects this Sunday (24), investigated for the murder of her sister, Marielle Franco. Through social media, she thanked the public bodies responsible for the investigation.
They were detained Domingos Brazãocurrent advisor to the State Court of Auditors, Chiquinho Brazãofederal deputy from Rio de Janeiro, and Rivaldo Barbosa, former chief of Rio’s Civil Police.
“Only God knows how much we dreamed of this day! Today is another big step towards getting the answers we’ve been asking ourselves so much in recent years: who ordered Mari to be killed and why?”, he wrote.
“I thank the commitment of the PF, the federal government, the federal and state MP and Minister Alexandre de Moraes. We are closer to Justice!”, he stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Operation Murder Inc.
The Federal Police launched, this Sunday (24), the Operation Murder Inc., regarding the case of the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes. Three suspects were arrested in Rio de Janeiro on suspicion of being the perpetrators of the crime.
The Operation also fulfilled 12 search and seizure warrants, also in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The Attorney General’s Office and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro participated in the action.
Researchers work to define the motivation of the crime. So far, investigations indicate that the reason has to do with the territorial expansion of the militia in Rio.
MARIELLE’S MURDER
Councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes were murdered on the night of the day March 14, 2018. At around 9:15 pm, the car in which the two victims and advisor Fernanda Chaves were traveling was ambushed in the Estácio neighborhood.
Marielle and Anderson were hit by gunfire and died at the scene. Fernanda was hit by shrapnel and survived.
