Domingos Brazão

Domingos Brazão, currently a counselor at the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Auditors, was cited in the investigation into Marielle Franco’s death from the beginning of the investigation. At the time, he told the police that he only knew who the councilor was because she was the fifth most voted parliamentarian and after she was murdered with three shots in the middle of the street.

Domingos worked at Rio’s City Council as a parliamentary advisor in the 1990s and six years later was elected to a seat in Rio’s municipal legislature. Throughout his political career, he reached the position of state deputy for five consecutive terms, starting in 1999. In 2015, he was nominated and elected to the State Court of Auditors.

According to the g1, among Domingos’ main electoral strongholds was Rio das Pedras, the birthplace of the Rio militia. His influence in the region caused him to be mentioned in the final report of the CPI on Militias, in 2008. The former deputy denied having any involvement with paramilitary groups and the crimes being investigated.

Chiquinho Brazão

Chiquinho Brazão was a councilor at the Rio de Janeiro City Council for the MDB for 12 years. He was Marielle’s plenary colleague between 2016 and March 2018, when she was murdered. Unlike his brother Domingos, mentioned above, Chiquinho had never been mentioned in the investigation into the murder of the PSOL parliamentarian.
