The Federal Police (PF) arrested, this Sunday morning (24), three suspects in the murder of Marielle Franco. The councilor and the driver, Anderson Gomes, were shot dead in March 2018.

In the joint operation with the Attorney General’s Office and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), the brothers Domingos Brazão and Chiquinho Brazão were arrested, identified as having ordered the crime. Police chief Rivaldo Barbosa was also arrested, suspected of interfering with the investigations.

Domingo Brazão is currently an advisor to the Court of Auditors of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TCE-RJ), while Chiquinho Brazão is a federal deputy (RJ) for the União Brasil party. At the time of the crime, Chiquinho was a councilor at the Rio City Council, as was Marielle.

Rivaldo Barbosa, now coordinator of Communications and Police Operations, was Chief of the Civil Police in 2018.

The three preventive arrest warrants were issued by minister Alexandre de Moraes.

According to information from Globonews, the idea of launching the operation on Sunday morning was intended to surprise the suspects. The three would be on alert in recent days, after the STF approved the collaboration agreement between the PF and former PM Ronnie Lessa, accused of the murder.
