“None of them knew April before it was fulfilled. But yesterday, at the Young Municipal Assembly, there was hope for an equally “whole and clean” future. In the Main Hall of the Chamber, representatives of the municipality’s schools had the floor. And, although some demands were heard, most of the interventions served to reflect on freedom.
“Today we want more, more and more without doing anything, and already having everything. We abuse our rights, we forget our duties, and we forget that the rights we have today were the same ones that only came into existence 50 years ago. We became prisoners of our own freedom, because we forgot that before it was ours, it belonged to everyone”, recalled Afonso Calé Marques, 17 years old.
For the Avelar Brotero School student, “true freedom will only exist when we are all Mayan Willows and many others, without ceasing to be ourselves. It will only exist when we stop being proudly alone, and start releasing the essence of our core, the essence of April’s values”.
