The Pinarello Dogma F12 bicycle, which was generously gifted to Pope Francis by Colombian Egan Bernal, was recently auctioned for €14,000 (US$15,163).
Evaluation and Final Price
Although the lot was initially valued by experts at an estimated value of between €25,000 ($27,078) and €30,000 ($32,494), the bike ended up selling for a value closer to the retail price.
The auction attracted a total of 47 bids, with an interesting duel between a French bidder and an Italian bidder that lasted until Sunday night. The French bidder was the winner in the end.
Special Meaning for Egan Bernal
Egan Bernal gifted this bike to Pope Francis in June 2021, shortly after his victory in the Giro d’Italia. At the time, the INEOS Grenadiers cyclist expressed that the meeting between him and the Pope was “more important than winning the Giro and the Tour”.
