Until April 1st, both the GNR and the PSP intensify road inspection, in “Operation Easter 2024” throughout the national territory, with the aim of reducing accidents.
From today until April 1st, the National Republican Guard (GNR) will intensify road inspection, patrolling and awareness-raising activities throughout the national territory as part of “Operation Easter 2024”
In a statement, the GNR said that the objective is to combat crime, contribute to reducing road accidents, regularize traffic and support citizens.
The GNR recalls that traditionally, the Easter season «is characterized by the reunion of families in their regions of origin and, as it corresponds to the period of school holidays, a significant increase in road traffic on Portuguese roads is consequently expected».
In the note, the Guard says that «Operation Easter 2024» aims at the safety and protection of people, which goes beyond road inspection, with the effort also being aimed at festivities, surrounding areas, residential and commercial areas, as well as as well as the most critical road traffic routes.
«The inspection period for the greatest effort in road patrolling, on the most critical roads, will be between the beginning of March 28 [quinta-feira] and April 1st, the period when the highest volume of traffic is expected», indicates the same document.
As part of the operation, the Guard advises “attentive, cautious and defensive driving, adapting speed to weather conditions, the condition of the road and the volume of road traffic, avoiding dangerous maneuvers, excessive speed and not driving under the influence of the alcohol and psychotropic substances”.
The GNR also draws attention to the misuse of cell phones and incorrect or non-use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems and the safety conditions of vehicles.
The Public Security Police (PSP) also started last Friday and until March 31st the operation “Polícia Semper Presente – Easter em Segurança 2024” with patrols and inspection actions throughout the territory, at the accesses to the main road axes.
The PSP operation aims at road safety, crime prevention and safety in the possession and use of pyrotechnic articles.
