Posts deceive by associating Freixo with the murder of Marielle Franco

The misleading pieces omit the content of the connection and make it appear that Freixo is associated with the deaths. The Federal Police never linked Freixo to the councilwoman’s death. What Freixo stated was that he called the then head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, delegate Rivaldo Barbosa, to report Marielle’s death.

The PF operation carried out last Sunday arrested police chief Rivaldo Barbosa, suspected of planning the crime and hindering the investigations. Rio de Janeiro Court of Auditors advisor Domingos Brazão and his brother, federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (no party), were also arrested on suspicion of being the masterminds behind Marielle’s murder.

Barbosa was head of the Homicide Department and took over as head of the Civil Police on March 13, 2018, the day before the councilor’s death. He was appointed by the then federal intervener in Rio, General Walter Braga Netto, who was Minister of Defense and the Civil House, during the Bolsonaro government (2019–2022).

The arrest warrants were issued by STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Alexandre de Moraes following an investigation by the PF, which took over the case last year. The developments occurred after the approval of the plea of ​​former military police officer Ronnie Lessa, imprisoned since 2019 and identified as the possible author of the shots that killed Marielle and Anderson.
