Porto Alegre registered, this Tuesday (26), the first death from dengue this year. The death was confirmed by the State Department of Health (SES) after the capital city hall informed about the episode earlier.
With a death that occurred in Três de Maio, in the Northwest, also confirmed this Tuesday, RS reaches 42 victims of the disease in 2024 (See below the list of each of the victims in RS).
The victim in the Porto Alegre case is a 37-year-old woman, with no comorbidities. The death occurred on March 19th.
In the case of Três de Maio, the victim is a 71-year-old man, resident of Três de Maio, in the Northwest of RS. The patient had a pre-existing illness and died on March 20.
Emergency situation
So far, there have been 32,900 confirmed cases of the disease in the state this year alone. In the same period, in 2023, Rio Grande do Sul had 6 thousand cases of dengue.
The Secretariat reinforces the importance of the population Seek medical attention from health services at the first symptomsthat are:
- high fever (39°C to 40°C), lasting two to seven days, retro-orbital pain (behind the eyes)
- headache
- body ache
- joint pain
- general malaise
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- red spots on the skin, with or without itching
Seeking care at the beginning of feelings of physical discomfort is a way to prevent worsening of the disease and possible progression to death. SES indicates the use of repellent also for individual protection against Aedes aegypti.
Measures to prevent the proliferation and circulation of the insect, by cleaning and reviewing the internal and external areas of homes or apartments, prevent the mosquito from being born, cutting the life cycle in the aquatic phase.
