Honda gone premium? Japanese brand cars are experiencing sky-high prices

-

As there is no trade agreement between the country and Brazil, the sedan would be at least 35% more expensive due to the tax burden. The solution was to only bring the hybrid version which – at the time – was exempt from import tax.

The car is equipped with three engines, two electric and one combustion – which, in itself, increases its cost. Result: the sedan, which was once among the best sellers in the category, now costs more than R$265,000 and the price tends to increase, as the import tax for electrified vehicles is progressively returning.

Accord, a sedan larger than the Civic, and CR-V, the brand’s largest SUV in Brazil, are imported from the United States and Thailand, respectively, and experience similar situations. They arrived in the country in hybrid and top-of-the-line versions, but started paying taxes from January. The consequence is prices between R$332.4 thousand and R$352.9 thousand.

Closing the portfolio is the Civic Type R. At R$429,900, it is the most expensive Honda in history, but certainly the most special as well. The sports car’s price is justified by the 2.0 16V turbo engine with 297 hp and more than 40 kgfm of torque, in addition to mechanics completely adapted for performance.
