The Secretary of Public Security of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Cesar Carvalho dos Santos, stated that the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and the investigations into the crime caused the country’s attention to turn to the “Office of Crime”, a criminal organization who had been working in Rio for years.
On an agenda at the headquarters of the Executive Branch of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, this Wednesday (27), Victor Santos spoke exclusively to the Itatiaia report on the developments in the investigation into Marielle’s murder and driver Anderson Gomes and promised exemplary punishment for police officers who had proven participation in the crime.
“We have to keep in mind the presumption of innocence. There is a complex investigation into an absurd murder that we cannot admit. But we have to see that this gang, the Crime Office, which for years killed people in RJ, ended up having their attention focused on Marielle’s death. This made RJ wake up to this reality, which was that this extermination group worked for criminal organizations, with the intention of taking the lives of opponents”, stated the Secretary of Public Security of RJ.
Asked about the participation of delegate Rivaldo Barbosa, head of the Civil Police, in the crime – a hypothesis highlighted by the Federal Police when launching the operation last Sunday – the secretary stated that, if his involvement is proven, the punishment will be exemplary.
“It has to be observed very carefully. We are not aware of the details of this participation. But it is a serious fact and, without a doubt, we will demand strong evidence so that he is punished exemplarily”, said Victor Santos.
