Tax authorities warn of new fraudulent email about refund

The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) has issued a new alert about a fraudulent email being sent to taxpayers regarding a supposed refund, highlighting that the suggested link should not be opened.

“The Tax and Customs Authority is aware that some taxpayers are receiving email messages supposedly coming from AT, referring to a possible refund, in which they are asked to click on a link”, states the message published on the Finance Portal.

In one of these false emails the “customer” is ‘informed’ that “he is entitled to a refund of 250 euros”, and is told to “send the form” by accessing the false link which, AT warns, only intends to take the taxpayer accessing malicious pages.

“Under no circumstances should you carry out this operation”, emphasizes AT, remembering that “these messages are false and should be ignored” as “their objective is to convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the suggested links”.
