This week, entities representing the federal public education sector, including ASSUFRGS (Union of Employees of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) and SINTFUB (Union of the Workers’ Foundation of the University of Brasília), announced the start of a strike. This is a time of mobilization and resistance due to the systematic neglect, from government to government, of the essential needs of education in the country.
Due to lack of agreement with the Government, our education employees are being forced to take this extreme measure. Precarious working conditions, outdated salaries and lack of investment in the infrastructure of educational institutions are just some of the issues that have been neglected. It is unacceptable that education, a fundamental pillar for the development of any nation, is treated with such neglect.
As always reported by the Citizen Debt Audit, just one year of what is allocated to the Debt System in the federal budget would be enough to compensate for all salary losses over the last 10 years, not only for education employees, but also for all other areas that are being abandoned by this and previous governments. It is a diversion of resources that could be invested for the benefit of the Brazilian people.
At this crucial moment, it is essential to strengthen the National Campaign for Social Rights. The fight for quality public education does not only concern education employees, but the entire Brazilian society, which has the inalienable right to education. It is time to unite our voices and demand public policies that prioritize universal and equitable access to education, ensuring a dignified future for the next generations.
