And in the week symbol of Christian faith, the mayor of Ouro Preto, Angelo Oswaldo (PV), signed the Term of Commitment for the Restoration of the Church of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos.

The religious monument, listed at federal level, was closed for 10 years, due to structural problems that put the faithful at risk. At the beginning of March, the Federal Government announced the transfer of more than R$40 million, coming from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) Cultural Heritage, for the resumption and beginning of works in cities such as Ouro Preto and Diamantina.

On the afternoon of this Wednesday (27), the head of the municipal executive signed the term that authorizes the beginning of interventions in the church.

“The whole city was waiting for the restoration of Senhor Bom Jesus de Matosinhos das Cabeças, now realized thanks to the PAC of Historic Cities. Resources already in the city hall, we will soon contract the work to preserve the church.”

In total, the Federal Government released R$ 3,717,787.46 to carry out the restoration of the Church of Bom Jesus by the Municipality of Ouro Preto, which will prioritize the renovation of the roof, frames; masonry; drainage; external agency; floors and ceilings; in addition to structural reinforcement.

The remaining R$36 million will be used in ten other actions, which include the renovation and restoration of five churches and four chapels, including the Church of São Francisco de Assis, which houses works by master Aleijadinho, and the project to restore the historic bells.
