The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the death of a 60-year-old woman following a cosmetic procedure on her buttocks. The case occurred on March 7, at a clinic in Prado, in the western region of Belo Horizonte.

Laudelina Gomes Machado arrived at the location at the scheduled time, accompanied by her boyfriend. This would have been the fourth and final stage of treatment.

According to the police report, registered by the Military Police, the doctor responsible for the procedure, Adelmo de Araújo Monteiro, reported that it was a simple aesthetic procedure and could normally be carried out in an outpatient clinic.

The doctor also reported having applied local anesthesia before and after the procedure. According to the police report, the professional also prescribed an antibiotic pill and another anti-inflammatory to the patient, which were given to Laudelina by an employee.

Laudelina applied PMMA, a polymethyl methacrylate used for fillers in facial and body aesthetic treatments, especially for buttock augmentation. Although it is authorized, the product can cause inflammatory reactions which, in turn, can lead to deformities and necrosis where it was applied.

Adelmo Monteiro also said that, as soon as he got up, the patient complained of drowsiness. After the procedure, Laudelina fell and felt sick.

The clinic employee, who was also interviewed, confirmed the doctor’s information. She added that when she arrived to work, Laudelina had already undergone the cosmetic procedure and that minutes after the woman took the pills prescribed by her boss, the patient began to feel sick. The doctor would have asked for help.

According to the statement, the employee helped the professional place the patient on the stretcher and the clinic’s cardiologist was called to perform first aid procedures. Samu (Mobile Emergency Care Service) was called.

The cardiologist spent a few minutes performing maneuvers to revive Laudelina, but she died at the scene.

Laudelina’s boyfriend said that the two of them researched the clinic online before booking the procedure, which cost R$12,000. He said that his girlfriend was taking continuous medication for her blood pressure and that she had taken medication for nausea on the day of the procedure.

The man also told the police that the procedure was carried out with the door open and, when it was finished, Laudelina got up feeling unwell. Her body was sent to the IML (Medico-Legal Institute), where it underwent examinations.
