“Safe Easter”: almost a thousand accidents since the beginning of PSP operations

A PSP made 404 arrests throughout the national territory and recorded almost a thousand accidents, without fatalities, since March 22, when the operation “Safe Easter”the police announced this Friday.

In a statement, the PSP highlighted that, between March 22 and this Thursday, in its area of ​​responsibility, 996 accidents were recorded, resulting in 284 minor injuries and 13 serious injuries, with no fatalities recorded.

As part of the road inspection, 166 people were arrested for road crimes, namely 87 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 79 for lacking a legal license to drive.

Across the country, 16,822 drivers were inspected and 55,287 vehicles were controlled by radar, of which 592 were traveling at excessive speeds, “which corresponds to more than 16% of the total number of offenses recorded”.

In its area of ​​influence, the PSP also registered 3,633 infractions, highlighting 61 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol, 361 due to lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 119 due to lack of civil liability insurance, 90 due to use of a cell phone while driving and 41 for failure to use a seat belt.

The PSP highlighted that another 54 people were arrested for drug trafficking, with more than 5,140 individual doses being seized.

The police also detained 40 citizens for crimes against property, namely fraud, theft and robbery, and 11 for possession of prohibited weapons, having seized 12 firearms and 16 bladed weapons.

More than 395 kilograms of explosive material were also seized during two operations.

In the note, the PSP again appeals to citizens to drive safely, adapting their driving to the weather conditions and the characteristics of the road.
