Israel carries out attack on Iranian consulate that results in the death of a high-ranking Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander

Israel carried out an attack with fighter jets that hit the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, this Monday (1), resulting in the death of Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a high-ranking commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, as reported by Iranian state media.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed that seven of its members, including three commanders, were killed during the Israeli attack. In addition to Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the deceased commanders included Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, Zahedi’s deputy, and another high-ranking commander, all affiliated with the Qods Force, the organization’s external operations arm.

According to Hossein Akbari, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, the consulate was hit by six missiles fired from F-35 fighter jets.

The Iranian government held Israel responsible for the consequences of the attack on the consulate in Damascus, as communicated by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian during a call with the Syrian Foreign Minister, according to Iranian state media.

Although an Israeli military spokesman refused to comment on the reports in foreign media, unnamed Israeli sources confirmed to the American newspaper “The New York Times” that the attack was carried out by the country, although they did not confirm the death of Commander Reza. Zahedi.

Syria’s state television channel confirmed the attack on the consulate building. Iranian media also reported that a building near the embassy was hit, with the Iranian Student News Agency reporting that targets included the consulate and the ambassador’s residence.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian called the attack on the consulate in Damascus a violation of all international conventions.

Despite escaping unharmed, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, stated that Iran will respond severely.
