Dand according to the Israeli military authorities’ portal, the Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism will be activated, a body headed by an Israeli major general, responsible for providing maximum information to decide whether to open a criminal investigation into the deadly incident that occurred during the fighting.
Images recently published on social media show that one of the WCK organization’s vehicles has damage to the roof, which suggests that it may have been hit by an air strike.
Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said he personally spoke to Spanish cook José Andrés, founder of the humanitarian group, to express condolences over the workers’ deaths.
“We will open an investigation to analyze this serious incident. This will help reduce the risk of a similar event” in the future, he said.
Hagari said the incident is being analyzed “at the highest level.”
World Central Kitchen announced that it will suspend operations in the region following the attack and held the Israeli Army directly responsible, considering it an unforgivable act.
The attack claimed the lives of seven workers at the non-governmental organization, including four foreigners: a Briton, a Pole, an Australian and an American-Canadian citizen.
They are the first foreign humanitarian workers killed in the Gaza war since October 7 last year, which has claimed more than 32,800 victims, most of them women and children.
WCK, based in the capital of the United States, was founded by Spaniard José Andrés during the serious humanitarian crisis that affected Haiti after the violent earthquake in 2010.
The attack in Gaza that targeted WCK employees has already been condemned by the Spanish government and the European Union diplomatic representative, Josep Borrell, among other states and entities.
