This weekend, the track Lifetime Movies the two-part film premieres exclusively for Latin America Murdaugh Family Murders (Murdaugh Murders: The Movie), a true crime story, which tells the terrible crimes committed in 2021 by South Carolina lawyer Richard Alexander Murdaugh, better known as Alex Murdaugh, which include the murder of his wife and son, the embezzlement of the funds of his law firm and the fraud of several insurance companies.

Starring renowned actor Bill Pullman, Murdaugh Family Murders is the 500th film in Lifetimemarking the great success in the channel’s production of true crime stories, being the first dramatization about the events related to the Murdaugh family and the case that mobilized the United States.

Bill Pullman plays Alex Murdaugh, a lawyer who belongs to a prominent family whose ancestors held important judicial positions in South Carolina for decades. And although Alex is a grown man, he lives in the shadow of his imposing father Randolph Murdaugh III, a former state inspector who constantly makes him feel how disappointed he is in him and his grandson. Under the constant pressure of feeling the weight of carrying the family legacy and the desire not to lose his privileges, in addition to proving to his father, family and society that he is a successful man, Alex little by little turns into a fraud. Addicted to oxycodone and dedicated to keeping up appearances, he begins manipulating the law firm’s finances, cheating his clients, and constantly lying to his loved ones to maintain the illusion of control and success.

The film begins in 2019, when Alex Murdaugh is already addicted to drugs, in financial difficulties, and a teenage son, Paul (Curtis Tweedie, Timeless: Guardians of History), who constantly gets into trouble due to alcohol consumption. Meanwhile, his wife Maggie (Lauren K. Robek, Legends of Tomorrow) begins to worry that the men in her life are dealing with deeper issues than she realized. With so much pressure, Alex Murdaugh falls into a spiral of despair until he does the unthinkable, murdering his wife and son.

Directed by Greg Beeman, known for his work on The Mysterious Benedict Society, Falling Skies, Heroes It is Timeless: Guardians of History, the production had to work against time when faced with the writers’ strike and the imminent actors’ strike – the scripts were finalized the day before the strike began. And the team had to finish production by June 30th. Added to all this pressure was the plan to make not one film, but two of two hours each, to narrate both the crimes and the judicial process.
