The earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale was recorded by the Japanese meteorological agency at 8:58 am today local time (last night in Brazil). The region of Yonaguni Island was where the intensity of the earthquake was felt most. The surroundings of the epicenter were the most affected.

At least nine people have already died, the Taiwanese government said. According to the fire department, at least three victims were crushed to death by rocks after a landslide in Hualien County, the epicenter of the tremor. The number of injured is 946.

The searches continue. In addition to the miners trapped in the quarries, dozens of people are also under the rubble of the buildings. A group of 50 people disappeared while on their way to a national park at the time of the tremors.

Part of a road in Taiwan collapsed. At least nine landslides were recorded on the Suhua highway along the east coast of Hualien. Information is provided by the Taiwan Central News Agency.

Tsunami warnings were issued for islands located in Japan and the Philippines, but canceled hours later.
