78 municipalities in the East of Minas that reached or came close to the childhood vaccination targets in 2023, received a gold and silver certificate from the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) and the Government of Minas. (See the list of municipalities below)
The delivery took place during the second edition of the “Bora Vacinar” label, at the Juscelino Kubitschek Auditorium, in Cidade Administrativa, in Belo Horizonte.
The first edition was last year and since then, there has been an increase of almost 25% in relation to the number of municipalities certified with the seals.
Across the state, the number rose from 286 to 356 cities. One hundred and twenty-two municipalities were certified with the Gold Seal and 234 with Silver.
The gold seal is awarded to the municipality that reaches the target in the 14 vaccines evaluated for children under one year old and one year old. Silver is awarded to the municipality that manages to achieve ten to 13 vaccines.

According to the MP, the seal was created to encourage municipal actions to encourage vaccination with the aim of increasing vaccination coverage, either by improving results that are below the targets stipulated by the Ministry of Health, or by increasing levels of immunization. This aims to prevent the return of diseases that have already been eradicated and prevent new epidemics.
“Regarding vaccination, which is a state policy that has been eradicating serious serious diseases for many years, there was a huge amount of misinformation. It is now up to the Brazilian state itself to reverse this logic, because many believed in what was said. The Bora Seal Vaccination is a reward for municipalities with a high number of vaccinations and we need to encourage others to do the same thing”, explained Attorney General Jarbas Soares Júnior.
For the Secretary of State for Health of Minas Fábio Baccheretti, “the Public Ministry’s initiative adds to the actions of the state executive. Vaccination didn’t just decline at the time of the pandemic, it had been happening since 2016. So, we have practically almost 10 years of decline in vaccination rates. The success of vaccination, which is the eradication of infectious diseases, makes the population settle down and stop looking for vaccines proactively”.
Furthermore, “fake news, which has become very strong in recent years, so this seal certainly adds to the already usual strategies and this has been bringing good results. What we will see here are several municipalities that have already reached the target, some that are already reaching it and others with the prospect of being able to guarantee this vaccination. All this effort is to ensure that we do not have already eradicated diseases, such as measles and polio, back”, concluded Fábio.
